I have tried adding an explicit scope for the hosted It is only when the server has a DHCP Role that this fails. Note that removing the DHCP Role leads to the DHCP IP address given out properly when the laptop connects to the hosted network. The laptop is Windows 8 but I see no difference with Windows 7 either. Does anyone have any idea? The server is Windows Server 2008 R2. I see DHCP DISCOVER packets but no response indicating that the server is trying to provide an IP address I have run netmon on both the server and on the laptop. which indicates to me that DHCP is not working in this scenario. The ip address on the laptop for the WiFi connection ends up beginning I can connect from a laptop to the server on the soft ap but I do not receive an IP address. Set up as a DHCP Role, I am unable to successfully start a hosted network on the server. However, I also need to start a hosted network (softap) on this server for other testing. I have a scenario where I have a server with a couple of wired connections for which the server acts as a DHCP server.
